get creative

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT GETTING CREATIVE:
NOTE: We are currently not accepting any additional creative media, stories or articles. You can read the stories and read the citizen journalism articles.

what is this project about?

We’re gathering stories from people from all over Scotland about how they help in response to COVID-19. These stories will help shine a light on the important role of communities, particularly where people are coming together to support meaningful, positive change. When you contribute your creativity to this project, we will learn through research we take away from it. We aim to learn valuable lessons from stories of social action and what this means for creating a fairer Scotland for us all.

who can take part?

We’d really like to hear from people who have done things not through their work, but because they wanted to help the people around them. You might have set up a mutual aid whatsapp group for your neighbours, put on a gig in the park, delivered shopping to a relative or organised a social distancing walking group. Whatever you did, and however you help, we’d love to hear from you and the impact this has had on your community.

Everyone is welcome to contribute and we are particularly interested in hearing from you if you’re LGBTQI, disabled, black or ethnic minority, shielding, affected by COVID-19 directly, either experiencing it, caring for someone with it, or if you’ve lost your income because of it.

how can I take part?

There are two ways you can contribute:

  1. The first is by writing a blog; an opinion piece on what you did and what you think we could learn from this. They’re normally no more than 500 words long, and you can see examples by clicking here.

  2. The second way is through a media piece, like something audio or visual that you have designed specifically for this project. You could make a video, record a voice memo, put together a zine, record your spoken word thoughts or send in your pictures about what you did, for example. Include a statement of why you chose this and what we learn from this as a community and as a country.

will I get paid?

You will be paid £50 for a blog post and £100 for other creative media contributions. This value equivalent can also be paid in food vouchers.
